COTSWOLD Flyball Zephyrs managed a second place finish in their latest tournament at West Woodlands Showground in Frome, Somerset.

The Zephyrs and sister team the Siroccos, running in Division Five, had a very close day’s racing, with both coming close to winning the division. Ultimately the Zephyrs had to settle for runners-up, with the Siroccos third. The Siroccos, featuring Hecla, Evie, Milo, Poppi and Elsa, went into their last race needing a win to clinch the division but just missed out in a thrilling match against the Jets in the deciding leg. That defeat let in the Zephyrs, whose excellent four and one record gave them second place.

Of the other four Cotswold teams the Sundowners, featuring debutant Bailey, and sister side the Mistrals, with debutants Belle and Rosie, also found themselves in direct competition in Division Seven. This turned out to be another very tough division. The Mistrals, who lost experienced dog Eddie to illness in the morning, struggled to hit form but clinched one win to take fifth, debutants Belle and Rosie acquitting themselves well. The Sundowners picked up two wins to take fourth courtesy of a victory over their sister team following an impressive debut from Belle.

The Typhoons, running on Sunday, experienced the highs and lows of flyball in one day in a tremendously close Division Four. Running with the minimum four dogs due to the absence of classy Cocker Ruby, Dylan, Cerys and Rona managed three victories setting up a showdown with Power Jets. The Jets showed too much power and won, however, which saw the Typhoons slip to fourth place when a success would seen them finish second.

The Cyclones in Division Three suffered a bad morning, as Collie Flynn was clearly out of sorts. The afternoon session was much stronger, as he recovered sufficiently to support teammates Rocky, Dexter and Tammi, picking up a win and taking eventual division winners, the very fast Hampshire Hooligans, to a decisive fifth leg.

The club now has a break from competition until early July. However, Cotswold Flyball Club will be giving a demonstration of their sport at the Miserden Country Fayre on June 29.
