DANNY Talbot’s season just keeps getting better and better, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

On Monday evening in Prague, 'Trowbridge Tornado' Talbot raced to victory over 200m in the Memorial Josefa Odložila meeting in a new personal best of 20.36secs which lifted him to No 1 in the 2014 UK Rankings.

The time also moves Talbot to equal 14th – alongside Todd Bennett – in the UK All-Time Rankings with every chance he will move up even further within the next month or so.

“I am really pleased and I know there is more to come in the coming weeks,” said Talbot.

But for the moment it is back to the 100m where Talbot has also made massive improvement by bettering his PB twice recently the latest being 10.14secs in Bedford.

Talbot is having another go at that distance at the Bislett Games, in Oslo, on Wednesday night, after receiving a late invite.

Then he will be turning his attention to the European Team Championships in Germany on June 21-22 where he has been selected to race the 100m and then, all being well, his place in the England squad for the Commonwealth Games will be confirmed after much delay.

“It was a brilliant run by Danny on Monday,” said coach Dan Cossins.

“Running 20.3 something feels massively faster than 20.5 and he is now getting into the low 20 seconds.

“Hopefully that will be a huge psychological boost for him and he can go even quicker this season.”

With Talbot ranked only sixth quickest over 100m in the UK this season it may surprise many that he got the nod to take the one spot in the GB team for the European Team Championships.

“We are assuming that sprinters like Chijindu Ujah (9.96secs), Adam Gemili (10.07secs) and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (10.08secs) turned it down to concentrate on the British Championships the following weekend but we didn’t want to turn it down,” added Cossins.

“Opportunities don’t come around like this very often and it is a short career so Danny wanted to race it. We will worry about the trials afterwards.”
