AVON Valley Runners’ Fiona Price set two new records at the South West Vets Championships in Brecon.

Price ran the one-hour race which was integrated with the 10000 metres, finishing the 25 laps (10000m) as first lady in a Championship record time of 40 minutes 48 seconds.

That was some way off her SW vets club record of 40:11 set last year in Kingston.

Continuing on to record an hour distance, Price completed 36 laps and 119 metres before the hour gun went, having set a new British VW46 record of 14,519 metres.

The Howorth brothers from Hilperton staked a strong case to be selected for the English Schools’ Champion-ships after they both smashed their personal bests over 1500m.

Competing at a British Milers’ Club meeting in Coventry, John finished fourth in the B race in a time of 4mins 18.5secs with Robert just behind in 4:16.8.

Those times were well inside the English Schools’ qualifying standard of 4mins 22secs for the junior boys’ age group with John carving almost five seconds off his best and Robert slashing almost a staggering eight seconds off his best time.

Moreover, the time put John and Robert second and third respectively in the South West rankings for U15 boys – and 12th and 14th quickest in the UK.

Also at Coventry 15-year-old Melksham Oak School student Will Stockley ran the 1500m A race and improved his best by two seconds with a time of 4:09.7 that puts him third quickest in the South West in the U17 age group.

All three will be in action for Wiltshire at the South West Schools’ Championships in Yeovil on Saturday.
