FORMER Calne Netball Club chair Barbara Barnard has been presented with a special award by the Wiltshire County Netball Association for her long commitment to the sport in the county.

Barnard, who will shortly turn 75, has played competitive netball for more than 40 years and still features for the Calne club in the Moonraker League.

Club chair Joanne Ballinger said: “Barbara has remained loyal to Calne Netball Club through a chequered history, seeing the club fold and restart on several occasions and has taken on every role from captain to treasurer to kit lady.

“During her time as chair, she played a key role in negotiating the club’s use of the sporting facilities at Beversbrook and encouraged and supported the setting up of a junior section, which is growing year on year.

“It was under the guidance of Barbara that Calne Netball Club has grown into the successful and growing club that it is today.’’

Barnard received her award from Wiltshire County Netball Association chair Pat Harris.
