'Big night' for Kildemand in his homeland

PETER Kildemand will be looking to follow in the footsteps of close friend Hans Andersen when he takes part in the biggest meeting of his career this evening.

The Robins’ number one has been handed the wild card for the Danish Grand Prix in Copenhagen, a reward for his fine form across Europe during the first half of the 2014 season.

Tonight’s is the last GP to be staged at the Danish national stadium, PARKEN, with Andersen so far the only Dane to have tasted success under the roof in the capital.

The former Robins skipper was himself a wild card when he took victory in 2006 and, while his real goal is a semi final spot, Kildemand is excited to have the chance to replicate his achievements.

“This is a really big night for me and it was a big goal of mine to get the wild card,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to this and hopefully I can do something.

“If I can get some points in every race I can hopefully make the semi and then see what happens from there, I know I can do it.

“I’ve been the reserve before so that can help me get set up and things like that and get myself right so hopefully I can do well.

“PARKEN is one of the coolest stadiums I will ever race in so it’s really nice to have a chance to do that before the meeting moves away from there.

“It’s a great place and the atmosphere is amazing.

“Hans has won there before and he was the wild card so it would be great to do the same as him. It’s a big chance and it’s very exciting.

“This is the last meeting there will be at PARKEN so it’s great to have the chance to be a part of it.”

With Robins skipper Troy Batchelor also in tonight’s meeting, Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter is proud to have two of his riders competing at the top level of the sport.

“Peter can certainly go in there and ruffle a few feathers, that’s for sure,” he said.

“It’s great he’s got this chance and I really hope he takes it.

“The only thing is, riding in Denmark, there may be a bit more pressure on him now than there would be anywhere else but I’m sure he can cope with it.

“It’s great for the club to have two riders in there and I hope they both get on well.”
