HIGHWORTH Town Juniors chairman Mark Collett was pleased the weekend’s mixed weather did not dampen spirits at the club’s 17th annual six-a-side tournament.

Just under 200 teams from all over the country attended with many teams travelling from a far to attend including Wales, Dorset, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire.

Collett was delighted with the weekend’s event, he said: “Despite the weather not being too kind to us on Saturday it did not seem to dampen the sprits of the players who were keen to enjoy themselves. It’s been a very hectic few days, running fourteen different age groups over the course of the weekend, but its been very successful and well worth all the effort.

“I would like to thank our sponsors Skurrays, Richard James Estate Agents, Persimmion and Acorn Press for assisting and all the team from Highworth who helped put on a great weekend’s football feast.

“The most pleasing aspect of the weekend for me were the many comments about how good it was to see a club offering football for children with disabilities. It is something we are very proud of at Highworth and we are keen to grow this section in the future, the problem is their are not many teams for the children to play so it was particularly nice to see teams travel from afar including, AFC Bournemouth make the long journey up to join us for the tournament.”
