SWINDON’S 13-year-old BSB Motul British Motostar Championship racing star Charlie Nesbitt belied his inexperience with a fifth-place finish at Knockhill in Scotland recently.

Nesbitt, on his first visit to the circuit, looked to be making ground on the race leaders when a fallen rider on the track caused the youngster to lose momentum.

After the crash the top four riders consolidated their places but Nesbitt settled back into his rhythm to hold on to his fifth place spot.

The mixed weather during qualifying did not hamper the Scott Redding-backed Replicast Racing rider.

Rookie Nesbitt quickly learned the circuit to qualify fifth and at one point topped the time-sheets.

Nesbitt was delighted to get his best ever finish in the Motostar Championship.

“This weekend was mint,” said Nesbitt. “In the race I was battling with other riders all the way through the race and stayed in front and just focused on the leaders in front.

“I'm really pleased that this race gave me my best ever finish of fifth.

“I would just like to say a massive thanks to the team and all the sponsors, also Scott Redding for having faith in me, I can’t wait to ride the bike again at Brand Hatch.”

Gary Dawson, Nesbitt’s Replicast Racing team manager added: “It’s both rewarding but frustrating to watch the lads ride their hardest - earning their stripes on every outing and extremely talented in every aspect of racing.

“It’s a pleasure to work with such hard working and dedicated riders, at a very young age.”

Nesbitt next goes at Brands Hatch in round five of the British Motostar Championship.

The event runs from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20.
