WOOTTON Bassett captain Darren Beasant is hoping new signing Dan Ellis will add extra verve to his side’s bowling attack, as they target promotion from the Wiltshire League.

After a spell at Goatacre, Ellis returned to Ryland’s Way last weekend and made his second debut for the club in their 53-run victory over Swindon NALGO at Penhill on Saturday.

Now Beasant is looking forward to watching the speedster dissect top orders during the final eight games of the campaign, with Bassett needing to overhaul an 11-point deficit to Malmesbury, who currently occupy top spot.

“He went down to Goatacre and work commitments mean he can’t really commit to Premier League cricket - Glastonbury and Taunton and Minehead away. Dan’s managed to play the sum total of no cricket all year due to work commitments but with the Wilts League being more local he works every other week and the rest of year hopefully he’ll be around,” said Beasant.

“He’s a class above that level. He swings it around at genuine pace and particularly on something like Penhill on Saturday afternoon, you wouldn’t want to face him on that. He only got one-for but he certainly livened up proceedings a little bit.”
