FOOTBALL: Robins relish showpiece Yeovil clash

FROME Town manager Adrian Foster hopes that his players took heart from their clash with League One Yeovil Town on Wednesday night.
The Robins welcomed Gary Johnson’s Yeovil to Badgers Hill to kick off their pre-season fixture list in style, with the Glovers, who agreed to a friendly after pulling out of a Somerset Premier Cup tie in February, beating Foster’s men 6-1.
The Frome boss was delighted with his side’s efforts against a full-strength Yeovil, who changed the majority of their line-up at half-time.
“I thought that in the first half, there wasn’t much in it at all and we passed the ball around really well. We kept the same side for the start of the second half but they changed theirs completely and were completely rampant,” said Foster.
“It was just good for my players to gauge how far away they are from professionals and if you gave my side a year or two’s full-time training, you’d see a completely different team.
“I spoke to Gary Johnson and he was impressed, so hopefully we can build up a bit of a relationship with Yeovil and look to maybe take some of their players on loan in the future.”
Yeovil new-boy AJ Leitch-Smith netted twice to put the visitors 2-0 up before Frome midfielder Matt Smith struck to reduce the deficit.
But the League One Glovers stamped pressed home the issue after half-time, with Kieffer Moore netting a brace, with one coming from the penalty spot after Liam Davis was tripped in the area, whilst Sam Hoskins and Sam Foley also got themselves on the scoresheet.
Meanwhile, Frome have announced two former Gillingham Town players as Foster’s first two summer signings.
Ex-Gillingham boss Foster has snapped up former Swindon Supermarine, Taunton Town and Bridgwater Town midfielder Alex Rigley, who spent last season with Hellenic League Wootton Bassett Town.
Meanwhile, the Robins chief has also raided his former club to sign young winger Aaron Rodriguez, who scored seven times in 37 appearances for Dorset outfit Gillingham last season.
Foster added: “Alex and Aaron are two good signings and I’m happy with where we are at the moment – I may look to bring in one or two more.
“I’m looking to change a few things but we’re still looking to try and win the league. We’re going to work our socks off and it’s going to be tough but that’s the aim.”
