CRICKET: County’s ten out of ten
PROUD Wiltshire team boss Neil Shardlow paid tribute to the side’s memorable season as their winning run reached double figures this week.
Wiltshire, who failed to win a single game last season, notched up their tenth victory of the summer with a nine-wicket Unicorns Championship Western Division triumph at Berkshire.
Shardlow was delighted with the character shown by his players as they recovered from 89-5 during their first innings to post 314, a swing in momentum that led to the comfortable win at Falkland.
“The only person who would know if we’ve ever gone on a better winning streak is Brian White (honorary treasurer), who’s been involved with the county longer than I have, and he can’t remember anything better than this,” said Shardlow.
“We’ve been playing some excellent cricket all season but were actually in a bit of trouble at the end of the first day. But we fought back and really knocked the stuffing out of them.
“Berkshire are a good side and it’s another place where we haven’t had too much luck in the past, so it’s another reason to be really proud of the result and the performance.
“Hopefully we can keep this winning run going because if we can beat Oxfordshire (on Sunday), we’ll have a (Unicorns) Trophy final to look forward to.”
