CRICKET: Marshfield take over as Bedwyn suffer league setback

MARSHFIELD are the new leaders after they beat Devizes by three wickets and Great Bedwyn were surprised by Winsley.
Tim Saye hit 78 in Devizes’ 202 all out, but James Williams scored 75 and Russell Lodge 44 in Marshfield’s 204-7.
Bedwyn slipped to third, having been dismissed for 164 in under 40 overs at home.
Rob Palmer scored 65 but Stuart Hammond took 4-28 and Tom Walker 2-58.
Winsley had few problems knocking off the runs inside 32 overs, Jeremy Smith scoring an unbeaten 85 and Robbie Cross 38 not out.
The bowlers were on top at Burbage & Easton Royal as the home side edged home by a wicket against Trowbridge.
Trowbridge reached 150 before being dismissed in the 44th over, Mike Reynolds scoring 50 by Darran Freegard taking 5-36 for the home side.
Burbage endured nervous moments before scraping home to 153-9 after 42 overs, thanks mainly to an unbeaten 35 by Adam Lavis. Reynolds and Wes Marshall took three wickets each.
Calne continued their climb away from the foot of the table as they got home by a wicket at Nationwide House.
Tom Richards took 3-32 and Glen Robinson 2-28 as House were restricted to 151-9 in their 50 overs.
Wicketkeeper/opener Jordan Butler hit 84 in 60 balls in the reply, including 14 fours, as Calne reached a winning 152-9 in 29 overs.
Marlborough are still in the thick of the hunt after their 37-run win at Purton.
The visitors' 157 all out was built around 36 from Thomas Jacques and 27 from wicketkeeper George Penfold.
Purton were led by 41 from Mark Gardner, but only Elijah Samuel but George Fox took 3-46, Will Langton 2-32 and Ben Head 2-12 as they were all out for 120 in the 39th over.
Marlborough skipper Tom Norris said “It was a great knock from Tom and George and then Will and Fox along with Ben set the tone with the ball and there was fantastic catching from Penfold, Jacques and Wingfield-Digby.’’
Stuttering Goatacre still top of the pile as imperious Potterne batter opponents
GOATACRE are still top of Premier Two (2nd XI) despite their third defeat in four games at home to Gloucester City Winget.
Goatacre racked up 277-7 thanks to 97 from Mark Hunt and an unbeaten 75 from Steve Baker, but Gloucester reached their target in the penultimate over with six wickets in hand.
Biddestone had the better of the Glos/Wilts (2nd XI) derby with Chippenham, cruising to an eight-wicket win.
Chippenham reached 172-7, Matt Coles with 35 as Phil Knight took 3-43 but knocks of 63 not out from Matt Unwin and 82 by Liam Boulton got Biddestone home in 33 overs.
Potterne remain on top as their batsmen again made hay, this time at Rockhampton.
Skipper Jamie Hayes scored 124 and Sam Gaiger 159 in their 352-4, to which Rockhampton could only reply with 225-9.
Raghuveer Tupurani's 60 helped Marlborough surpass the 215-9 set by Hatherley & Reddings.
Corsham suffered a setback in their Premier One (2nd XI) campaign as they lost by seven wickets at Bridgwater.
The visitors totalled 236-5, with Adam Mitchell with an unbeaten 61 and Andy Davis 58, but the home side reached the target in the 41st over for the loss of three wickets.
Marshfield remain at the head of the Wiltshire (2nd XI) Division after a 206-run win over Devizes.
James Roper’s 106 and 85 from Colin Sinkins formed the backbone of Marshfield’s 288-6 and Devizes were all out for 82 in reply.
Winsley remain on the leaders’ tail after Edward O'Leary’s 188, including 31 fours, plus 46 from Ged Roddy and 43 from Dominic Alsop got them to 321-1 against Great Bedwyn, who reached 227-8, Joe Blundy with 63 as Alsop and Tim Merrell both took two wickets.
Calne upset contenders Nationwide House, who were dismissed for 162 as Thomas Brewer took 4-31 and Dale Goss 3-18. Henry Lee’s 75 lifted Calne, who needed a late unbeaten 29 from Robin Batson to get home by a wicket.
Burbage & Easton Royal were dismissed for just 88 by Lechlade, who reached their target inside 16 overs.
