SWINDON St George assistant coach Carl Baker think his team have an outside chance of making the West of England Premier League play-offs.

Despite being without a win in their six games this season St George are only two points behind Somerset Vikings and in with a shot of making the post-season if they continue their increasingly good form.

If St George win their remaining two fixtures, starting with Gloucester Warriors this Saturday then against Somerset at the end of the month, then Swindon will go ahead of the Bridgwater-based team courtesy of their points difference, even if Vikings beat Bristol this weekend, though that is dependent of the margins of victory.

Baker was encouraged by St George’s narrow defeat to the Sonics and thinks if they continue the level of performance from Saturday, the post-season is attainable.

“If we play like we did on Saturday then we have the ability to win both of those games, if we win both of those games that will put us in the play-offs,” Baker told the Advertiser.

“If we beat Somerset we will go head of them in the table, with our points difference.

“Everyone is so focused on getting that win, without a doubt, you don’t go on to the field to lose, we deserve the win, the way we’ve formulated as a club this year it will come.”

Despite the heartbreaking nature of last weekend’s defeat for Baker, he thought the team finally started playing in a real Rugby League style last.

“This is no longer a team of rugby Union players playing League, this is now a bunch of union players that know how to play League and are playing League.

“At the beginning this season the scores were a bit of a gap, when we first played Bristol it was 50-20, now they’re much closer.”

Warriors come into the game off the back off a two-week break since their 24-0 win over Somerset and sit second in the table.
