SWINDON Robins number one Peter Kildemand has helped Denmark into the final of the Speedway World Cup this evening.

The Odense racer scored 12 points in Event Two at Vastervik, as the Danes beat hosts Sweden by five points to progress.

Former Robins captain Hans Andersen contributed 12 points with club asset Mads Korneliussen also contributing 13, but it remains to be seen how many of the Event Two team will represent their country in the final given Nicki Pedersen and Niels-Kristian Iversen are waiting in the wings.

In his first ride Kildemand struggled to make the gate from the outside and became embroiled in a battle with Thomas H Jonasson for the final point-scoring place, which ended when the Swede collected the Robins number one’s front wheel and sent him to the floor. Jonasson was excluded and, in the re-run, Kildemand barged down the inside of Josef Franc to extend his side’s lead with a good victory.

After again missing the start in his second ride, Kildemand got a second chance after Jev Kostigovs slipped off, but could only finish second behind winner Oliver Berntzon.

With Denmark now four points up, Kildemand picked up his second win of the night despite being pushed all the way to the line by Sweden skipper Andreas Jonsson, before finishing second behind Czech Eduard Krcmar in his final programmed ride.

Denmark team boss Anders Secher opted to use Kildemand in the final heat of the night and, with victory already secured, the Dane romped to victory to complete a good night’s work.

The Danes will take on Alun Rossiter’s Great Britain team and hosts Poland in Saturday’s final at Bydgoszcz, with the trio joined by one of Australia, Sweden, USA and Czech Republic following Thursday night’s Race-Off.
