NEARLY 200 runners lined up at Castle Combe race circuit for the Wiltshire County Championship 10K road race organised by DB Max.

Michael Towler of Avon Valley Runners and Ben Brewster of City of Salisbury A&RC pulled away from the pack with nothing between them for the first seven kilometres.

Towler eventually pulled away to claim victory in 33.30, with Brewster taking the silver medal in a time of 34:09 and Gary Dunstone of Chippenham Harriers taking the bronze and retaining his position as the leading individual points scorer in the Wiltshire Road Race League.

In the ladies race, Fiona Price of Avon Valley Runners claimed the county title with a time of 40:03.

Bitton Road Runners’ Fiona Blackmore was the second lady over the line, however it was Samatha Kelly of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds who took the county silver medal and Jill Westwood of Avon Valley Runners the bronze for the second year running.

With the race playing host to the Wiltshire Road Race League it was Avon Valley Runners, who again took maximum points ahead of Chippenham Harriers and kepttheir unbeaten run going in the 2014 season.

The next race in the Wiltshire Race League is the Malmesbury 10km on Saturday August 30.

Supporting the 10km was a race over a single 3km lap, which marked the conclusion of the inaugural Wiltshire Junior Race League and saw Avon Valley Runners take the title ahead of Team Bath and Chippenham Harriers, with Eddie Slee of Chippenham Harriers and India Ibbotson of Team Bath the highest individual scorers.

Awards were presented to the following: BU17 Winner: Alex Tucker (Avon Valley Runners) BU15 Winner: Niall Thorne (Avon Valley Runners) BU13 Winner: Eddie Slee (Chippenham Harriers) GU17 Winner: Lucy Hyde (Team Bath) GU15 Winner: Ellie Brown (Avon Valley Runners) GU13 Winner: India Ibbotson (Team Bath) Medals were also awarded for total points gained throughout the season with Gold for 450 points, Silver for 400 points and Bronze for 300 points.
