WESTBURY captain Alex Senneck is hoping that his team have given their chances of escaping the Glos/Wilts Division drop zone a shot in the arm by getting back to winning ways last weekend.

Senneck’s men had suffered five defeats on the spin but are now just seven points behind eighth-placed Chippenham after a battering Biddestone by nine wickets at Wellhead Lane.

Westbury face a vital trip to bottom-of-the-table Chipping Sodbury tomorrow and their skipper believes that his side have what it takes to claw themselves to safety.

“We hope that this is the trigger for the last four games that will lead to us staying up,” said Senneck.

“We needed to do soul searching and a bit of reorganising but as a group we felt a win like that was in us.

“It was a decent toss to win but we still had to execute our game plan. We bowled very well first half which laid the platform for a convincing win.

“Of course we believe that we can do it. There are points up for grabs and our confidence is growing each week.”

Westbury won the toss and put the visitors in to bat first before barely conceding an inch as they put the Biddestone batsmen in a stranglehold.

Only the visitors’ Andy Flynn (28) and Dwaine Perry (23) reached double figures as Westbury’s David Wade filled his boots, taking 4-23.

Simon Rose claimed 3-27 whilst Andy Carroll took 2-21 as Biddestone were skittled for just 98 early in the 43rd over.

With the rain closing in, the home side were set a reduced target of 71 from 36 overs, and Rose got them on their way as he hit an unbeaten 41 from 31 deliveries.

Jared McDonald then added 15 to ease Westbury to 71-1 in little more than 13 overs.

Meanwhile, Pete Hickerton’s sublime unbeaten century helped Warminster to a 23-run victory over Chippenham.

The visitors put Tom Davie’s side in to bat first after winning the toss but Hickerton drove Warminster to 251-8, as he smashed 18 fours on his way to an unbeaten 134 from 114 balls.

Rory Cullinan also chipped in with 31.

Paul Bates (63) and Jack Humphreys (45) did their best to launch a fightback but the home bowlers did enough to sufficiently turn the screw, with Cullinan bowling ten overs for just 13 runs as Chippenham fell short on 228-9.
