FROME Town manager Adrian Foster says he doesn’t see the point in not aiming for the Southern League Premier Division title.

The Robins chief, who is going in to his first full season in charge at Badgers Hill, has reiterated his desire to see his team to mount an ambitious challenge for the top of the table in the upcoming campaign.

Former Gillingham Town boss Foster took over at Frome in December last year and after overseeing the Robins’ stunning revival from the depths of a relegation dogfight to a comfortable mid-table finish, the Badgers Hill boss is setting the bar much higher this season.

“Some people may think that I’m stupid saying it but the aim will definitely be promotion this year – we want to try and finish top,” said Foster.

“I don’t think there’s any point in aiming for fifth, sixth or 14th. You’ve got to aim as high as you can so that you’ve got a target to work towards.

“I’m happy with the squad that we’ve got here and we’re ready to get out there and hit the ground running.”

In the lead up to tomorrow’s season-opener at newly-relegated Histon, Foster has secured the signings of 19-year-old former Swindon Town striker Mark Francis, who had a loan spell at Frome last season, and winger Jack Twyford, also 19, from Dorchester Town.

Former Wycombe Wanderers striker Olly Taylor, who has been on trial with Woking this summer, has also come in at Badgers Hill whilst defender Rhys Baggridge has re-signed for the club.

However, Foster is set to be without the suspended Ben Thomson and the unavailable Tom Golledge and Baggridge for the opening weeks of the season.

The Robins boss said: “I’m happy with what I’ve brought in. Franno looks in good nick and Jack Twyford is the kind of player who loves to run at defenders.

“We are going to be missing a few players for the start of the season but the squad is more than strong enough to do well without them and we want to try and show that it will be hard for them to get back into the team.

“I don’t know much about what state Histon are in and if the budget has been slashed because they’ve come down from the Conference North but whatever side they put out in front of us, we’ll be going out there to get three points.”
