WARMINSTER skipper Tom Davies would be surprised if Rory Cullinan’s performances this season have caught the eye of the county side.

South Africa-born Cullinan, who is in his fourth season for Warminster after joining the Sambourne Road side in 2011, took two wickets for 30 runs and top-scored with an unbeaten knock of 41 as Davie’s men beat Tewkesbury by five wickets last weekend.

Captain Davie admits that he has no idea if Cullinan has come under the consideration of Wiltshire team boss Neil Shardlow but doesn’t think that a county call-up is unrealistic for his man.

“Rory Cullinan has a British passport now that he’s been here for long enough and in my opinion, he’s definitely good enough to play for Wiltshire,” said the Warminster skipper.

“I don’t know if they have looked at him yet but he’s exactly the kind of player that could come in and be effective with the way that he bowls with pace – I’m sure they’ll take a look at him eventually.

“Rory and John Powell were both excellent with the ball last weekend. It was a great bowling performance from us and it was brilliant to bowl Tewkesbury out for 136, especially because it’s not too hard to score runs at Warminster.

“We had a good bit of luck with losing the toss because I probably would have chosen to bat first, but it was a pretty ruthless performance and another good display from us.”

Warminster’s bowling attack piled the pressure on Tewkesbury from the off, with the visitors losing their first seven wickets for 77 runs.

Adam Brookes hit 37 whilst David Vernon added 23 but John Powell bowled ten overs for just nine runs, with Ollie Weaver and Davie also taking two wickets apiece to skittle Tewkesbury for 136 early in the 43rd over.

Cullinan’s unbeaten haul and Desmond Kruger’s knock of 39 spearheaded Warminster’s comfortable run chase, with Tom Weaver also weighing in with 21 as the home side reached 138-5 in little more than 31 overs.

Meanwhile, Westbury were unable to build on their win over Biddestone last week as they slipped to defeat in their crucial bottom-of-the-table clash at Chipping Sodbury.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, Alex Senneck’s men got off to a difficult start as their first two wickets fell for 21.

Jared McDonald and skipper Senneck steadied the ship with knocks of 36 and 35 respectively whilst Aditya Rai chipped in with 25.

Chipping Sodbury’s Jon Toghill claimed three wickets as Westbury were dismissed for 184 in their penultimate over.

With the elements taking hold of proceedings, the hosts were set a revised target of 107 off 29 overs which they duly chased down thanks to Jamie Wakefield’s unbeaten knock of 47.

Dan Clark also hit 37 not out as Chipping Sodbury reached 110-3 early in little more than 25 overs, with Senneck’s side beaten by seven wickets.
