EVEN though his side are just 15 points ahead of bottom spot in the Wiltshire Division, Winsley’s Kevin Hendy says that his team can still achieve their pre-season target.

Simon Orchard’s side suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Devizes last weekend but with the villagers aiming to improve on last summer’s second-from-bottom finish this season, Hendy reckons that can be achieved with two wins from their last three games.

Winsley host Calne tomorrow before travelling to Nationwide House and taking on Marshfield at the Downs.

“We were disappointed with the result last weekend but fair play to Devizes because they played really well – their batting, bowling and fielding was all strong and their opener (Tom Grant) knocked off the runs they needed,” said Hendy.

“You could say that we’re looking over our shoulder because Nationwide House are doing really well at the moment.

“I think we need to win two of our last three games but if we do that, we’ve got a chance of finishing towards mid-table, which is what we were aiming for at the start of the season.

“If we can do that, then hopefully we can push on into the top third of the table next year and a possible promotion push after that.”

Winsley were put in to bat first and after Jeremy Smith had top-scored with a knock of 36, the visitors were restricted to 154-9 from their rain-reduced 46 overs, with Devizes captain Joe Wookey taking 3-18.

The home side’s Grant then hit an unbeaten 82 to guide his team to 155-3 midway through the 39th over.

Meanwhile, Trowbridge suffered a 102-run defeat at bottom-of-the-table Nationwide.

Luke Bradley-Leach (43 not out) and Roger Pettifer (41) helped the hosts post 228-7 before Trowbridge were set a revised target of 165 off 36 overs.

But Mikey Reynolds top-scored with just 25 as the visitors were dismissed for 126 after 33 overs, with Joe Perkins taking 3-16.
