Marine suffer home thumping at hands of Yate
SWINDON Supermarine suffered an evening to forget as they were thrashed by Yate Town in their first home fixture of the season last night.
Dave Webb's men, who went down 2-0 at Didcot Town on Saturday, were hammered 4-0 at the Webb's Wood Stadium, ending the match with ten men after captain Dave Bampton was shown a straight red card in the second half.
Marine came close to taking an early lead when Brad Gray smacked a shot onto the crossbar from 25 yards and the home side hit the woodwork again midway through the half, with Josh Morse’s cross looping all the way onto the roof of the bar.
But on the stroke of half-time, Yate took the lead as Ross Staley's cross wrong-footed goalie Sam Warrell and found its way into the net.
Jake Jackson’s spectacular long-range strike doubled the visitors' lead just minutes after the break and Yate made it 3-0 with 55 minutes on the clock.
Striker Jackson drove his way to the byline and cut the ball back for Jordan Ricketts to tap home and to add insult to injury, Marine skipper Dave Bampton was sent off for for fouling Jackson in the build-up to the goal before James Harmer popped up with the visitors' fourth of the evening.
Elsewhere, TJ Bohane and Matty Horsell scored as John Fisher’s Highworth Town notched up their second win in as many games in the Hellenic League Premier Division with a 2-0 win at Brimscombe & Thrupp whilst Nathan Gambling’s goal handed Wootton Bassett Town a 1-0 victory at Newbury.
In Division One West, Gareth Davies’ Fairford Town slipped to a 4-0 loss at Tuffley Rovers.
