AFC Gas blew away their opposition to progress to the next round of the Swindon Sunday League Knockout Cup with a 9-1 victory.

Last season’s Division One champions played host to Division Two side The Windmill and made light work of proceedings to secure a comfortable win.

Striker James Blake was the star of the tie, as last season’s top goal scorer bagged himself five goals in the one-sided affair.

Goals from Lenny khan, Sam Mapham, Ash Taylor and Brad Stanners completed the rout for the home side.

“We approached the game with caution because Windmill are usually a very good side,” said manager Alan Blake who was without seven first team players due to a wedding.

“I think both sides had depleted squads for different reasons, but for me it gave the squad players a chance to show me what they have got.

“A lot of people got a game who normally wouldn’t and they all did a great job.

“James took his goals very well and he is a very good player.

“We take the cup seriously and now we are looking for a good draw in the next round.”

There were plenty of goals in the first round of the cup with Division One Walcot safely navigating their way past Division Four side DPR 9-0 and Greyhound continued their good start beating Cleeve Tech, of Division Three, 9-1.

Penhill Moonrakers pulled off the biggest win of the weekend as they beat Northern Lights, who sit bottom of Division Six, 20-0 at home.

Nine goals from striker Billy Styles helped the home side to complete the rout.

“We have had a couple of wins before where we have scored 10 but never anything like that,” said Penhill manager and goalkeeper Andrew Hill, who missed a penalty in the game.

“It was fun for the first half but then I just felt bad for them.

“It was like we were Real Madrid playing a non-league side and we are no Real Madrid that’s for sure.”

Division Five’s AFC Freshbrook pulled off one of the upsets of the round as they beat Division One outfit Wheatsheaf 2-1 at South Marston.

Tom Ballard and Aaron Valters got the goals for Freshbrook, with the hosts having a man sent off midway through the second half for violent conduct.

Division One’s Inter Sandgate also crashed out of the cup as they were beaten 8-3 away to Division Three side Cross Street.

Division Six’s Westbrook also claimed the scalp of higher-league opposition as they won 3-1 at AFC Tap & Barrel, with Carl Langston netting a brace whilst Junior Small was also on target.
