DEVIZES Town joint-manager Darran Walters was left feeling cheesed off as his side threw away a three goal lead to lose 4-3 to Cheddar.

Town, who have got off to a bad start in the Toolstation Western Football League First Division, looked like they had had a change in fortunes after storming to a three goal advantage after just eight minutes.

A brace from Matt Minnis added to a goal from Jake Walters to give the home-side, what should have been, a comfortable lead.

The visitors though were bale to net a goal just before the break and with confidence low amogst the Devizes ranks it was not long until Cheddar found themselves back on level terms.

A goal three minutes from time secured the impressive come back and left Devizes, who were without a recognised centre back for the tie, dejected.

“It is just the way it has been going for us at the moment,” said Walters.

“After such a good start we shouldn’t really be losing the game.

“They scored just before half-time and got themselves back in the game.

“We have had a lot of defeats and clearly confidence is low.

“We had a make-shift back three and that didn’t help.

“Their first goal gave them a bit of a life-line, we just had to keep playing our football and do what we do, not fall back and invite them on which is what happened.

“That has been the pattern this season, we have played well in a lot of our games and come away with nothing.

“I don’t think there have been many games where we have lost by more than a goal.

“We have got to raise the players now and will probably be looking to sign a couple of players to boost the squad.

“There have been so many games since the start of the season, which is fine when you are winning but when you are losing you can do without the mid-week games.”

The loss added to their 4-1 defeat on Saturday to local rivals Wetbury United, and leaves them just four places off the bottom.

A hat-trick from DJ Wheeler and a goal from Shaun Sheppard secured the home win with Dan Lardner getting a consolation goal for Devizes.
