MIKE ROSE of Avon Valley Runners led from the start to dominate a field of 150 in perfect conditions in Melksham on Sunday.

Rose, broke away from the field with Peter Nicholas of Team Bath for company and Andrew Duncan of Calne SMaRTT in pursuit.

On the second of the two flat fast laps around the town, the Team Bath runner was dropped and the Calne runner came through for second place, Rose crossed the line first in a new personal best time of 35mins 53secs.

Coming up through the field fast was Laura MacGregor also of Avon Valley, who recorded a personal best time and new club record of 36mins 3 secs to finish third overall and take the ladies’ title.

Lille Bellamy of Swindon Harriers was second and unattached runner Vivian Tang came in third.

Age group prizes: 1st MV40, Mark Bellamy, Swindon Harriers; 1st MV50, Simon Reeves , Avon Valley Runners; 1st MV60, Tony Seakins, Colchester Harriers; 1st FV40, Denise Grech, Calne Running Club; 1st FV50, Teresa Lovern , Somer AC; 1st FV60, Judith Wilson, Yeovil Town Road Runners.

WITH six runners in the top ten, Trowbridge based Avon Valley Runners took the men’s team prize with Rose, Thomas Coney, Pete Slade and Peter Veleski collecting the awards.

Royal Wootton Basset Hounds claimed the ladies’ team prize through Samantha Kelly, Emma Lanedon and Ellen Lovatt.

  • AVON Valley Runners ladies were in fine form at the Cardiff 10K event.

The team of Ruth Barnes, Fiona Price, Jackie Rockliffe and Jennifer Ford won the team prize ahead of the local city club Les Croupiers. 

Barnes, Price and Rockliffe were sixth tenth and 15th respectively, with Price finishing the first female veteran 45. Avon Valley’s Mike Towler was 19th overall in the race.
