DAKOTA North has blown off the cob webs and is raring to go ahead of tonight’s play-off clash with Coventry.

The Australian, who is in his first season at the Abbey, took a while to find his feet in the team but believes he is on his best form and has everything in gear to tackle the end of season showdown.

The 23-year-old was a late entry into the Elite League Riders Championship last Thursday but despite not winning any of his five heats, he finished with two second places and says he is ready to take on Coventry.

“I haven’t been riding for a week so I was trying to blow some cob webs out,” said North.

“My first two rides were pretty slow and I had pretty bad starts but I finished strong which is the main thing and it is good to get rid of those cob webs ahead of Monday.

“I feel good after finishing strongly, I think we should be alright but it depends on what Coventry do with the track.

“They had a good track there the last few weeks and they have been beaten so I think they might go back to what was working for them, a rough track, but we’ll see what happens.

“Since I signed with Swindon it probably took me a month to get back into the English tracks because I have just been riding in Europe but since then I haven’t looked back and it has been good.

“I have brought a few different engines over which are working really good now so we are pretty dialled in.

“I feel good and I think we should make the play-off finals.

“I am not going to talk too soon but I think we should be okay.”

Swindon’s impressive home form on the run in to the play-offs, winning their last nine meets at the Abbey, was key to their success and North believes that even if they lose at the Brandon Stadium tonight his team mates can turn around the deficit.

However the recent 60-31 victory over the Bees will not play a part in how tonight’s meeting will pan out.

“That was a different night so there are still a lot of heats to go, but I think all the boys are confident at home,” he said.

“We’ve had a long time off now from our home track which is not a good thing but I think we all have got a good set up there and I think we can have another win at home and hopefully keep it close at Coventry if we can’t win.

“Whatever happens on the night, speedway is speedway, and it is unpredictable.

“Even if we are a couple of points behind, or ten points behind, that is a good realistic goal that we believe we can get back at the Abbey but we’ll see what happens.”
