WESTBURY claimed west Wiltshire bragging rights as they won the first Dorset & Wilts One South derby between the two sides this season.
Up against the bare 15 players, the home side’s defence remained strong in a scrappy first quarter in which Warminster enjoyed most of the ball.
Warminster fly-half Lewis Noble broke the deadlock with a penalty, but when the visitors were caught offside, Westbury wing Jack Brooks levelled the score with a kick of his own.
Westbury began to build pressure through strong carries from the forwards and when their opponents turned over possession, but subsequently lost it, flanker Andrew Twinney touched down giving Westbury the 8-3 half-time lead.
The home side started the second half well and after 10 minutes, following interplay in the forwards, the ball was moved wide and fly-half Matthew Inseal touched down in the corner.
Westbury continued to dominate but poor decisions held up their progress until the 65th minute when, following a flowing backs move, centre Nigel Kershaw touched down.
Warminster lost flanker James Rowbotham to the sin-bin, but did respond when number eight Dean Priestman spotted a gaping hole on the blindside and ran in unopposed from 10 metres.
