DEVIZES slipped to a heavy South West One East defeat in Oxfordshire as they conceded six tries in the second half.

The Saddlebacks made the better start, the forwards punching the holes in the defence to allow fly-half Rory Brown to strike a sweet drop goal from 35 metres.

The visiting pack were enjoying their early ascendancy and, as Witney fell foul of the referee’s whistle and had a man sin-binned, Brown stepped up to land the penalty for a 6-0 lead.

Craig Bryant and James Gaiger both went close as the visitors battered away at the Witney line.

Brown missed another penalty before Devizes lost prop Tom Reed, with Will Creamer coming on for his first XV debut, before Brown went off to be replaced by youngster Bruce Clegg.

The visitors then lost Bryant to a yellow card and Witney took advantage to add a second try before half time.

The second half was all Witney as they ran in a further six scores, Toby Randall also being sin-binned for the away side.

Devizes hit back late on as Ryan Webb touched down and then Chris Barter outpaced the defence to touch down before adding the conversion.

CHIPPENHAM extended their lead at the top of the table to five points with a 22-12 win over Grove.

Tries came from John Turner, Bobby Lyons and Lewis Surry with Sam Saunders adding two conversions and a penalty
