WOOTTON Bassett Ladies maintained their unbeaten record in the West Clubs League East Division as they were held to a goalless draw by Wimborne Wayfarers.

Bassett made a steady start with good attacking play by Rebekah Taylor and Katy Cox down the wings.

However five minutes in, a high deflection off a Wimborne stick left Bassett’s key central defender Helen Wright with a facial injury, requiring hospital attention.

Bassett had to change positions and try to regroup in her absence but they never seemed to settle fully throughout the remainder of the match.

Bassett did have the odd attack by Abi Turner and Kelly Lusted but, without the support from the rest of the team who were stuck in their defensive half, they struggled to create many chances.

In the last ten minutes Bassett really had to dig in, with Meg Emms in goal making some great saves and Becky Parkhurst also clearing twice off the line.

The well-earned point kept Bassett in second place in the table, ahead of the trip to Mendip this weekend.

Meanwhile, fourteen year old Chloe Lewis scored Swindon's first goal in a 6-0 thrashing of Bretforton in Premier Division 2A.

The goal typified Swindon's uncompromising approach to the game with Lewis rounding the goalkeeper and scoring while taking a heavy fall from the close contact.

The game quickly became one-way traffic with Swindon dominating possession and creating regular chances.

The second goal came from clever build-up play between Gemma Scrase, Linda Browers and Adriana Boullosa with a final touch from Hannah Lewis at the far post.

Just before the interval, Swindon made it 3-0 after a strong run from Scrase through midfield found Boullosa who flicked powerfully into the net.

Within one minute of the restart, Vicky Stokes latched onto a cross after a right-sided attack.

The goal of the game came two minutes later when Boullosa ended a skilful 20-yard run with a sublime reverse-stick lob and the sixth came from a penalty corner with Lindsey Wall deflecting the ball home.

Swindon Ladies 2nd were beaten 3-0 by Team Bath Buccs.
