SWINDON came away with a deserved 2-1 win following a war of attrition against a physical Leominster side.

From the start Swindon dominated the home side, with creative play by the visitors putting their opponents under immense pressure.

It was captain Luke Cejer who broke the deadlock on 20 minutes.

Cejer played a quick one-two with Parsons at the top of the circle before blasting the ball beyond the keeper with a ferocious reverse-stick shot into the far corner.

The second half saw Swindon let Leominster back into it.

Forty seconds into the half Jim Towers and central defensive partner Thomas Hunt conspired to hang keeper Alan Gough out to dry, with the Leominster striker finishing easily from close range.

Despite the setback, Swindon continued to work hard.

With less than ten minutes left, Henry Cheney picked up the ball, driving at the defence, before playing a superb one-two pass with Lewis Dyer.

Cheney lashed the ball beyond several defenders and the keeper into the far corner to secure the three points for the Wiltshire side. However, the goal cost him dearly, as he crashed to the ground after colliding with the keeper and faces months out with a broken collarbone.

Swindon face early pace setters Cardiff & Met B at 12.30pm at Isambard School this Saturday.

n BACK to Hockey for Men sessions will be run at the Swindon club this autumn.
