TOWN boss Mark Cooper is hoping Colchester United stick to their attacking beliefs when they visit the County Ground on Saturday.

Swindon’s possession-based style has seen almost every team they have come up against adapt their tactics to counter it. Some have had more joy than others but over the last three games the opposition has been more successful.

Saturday’s visitors are on a hot streak – they’ve lost only twice in the league since Tony Humes was appointed at the start of September and has gained a reputation for playing attacking football.

Cooper, who was surprised by Rochdale’s change of style on Tuesday, is hoping Colchester come to Swindon with more attacking intentions.

“Colchester are another team that are playing really well,” said the Town boss.

“I’m hoping that they come and take us one and stick to their beliefs. They’ve had a great run under their new manager, he’s trying to bring the young players through and they’re playing some really good football.

“I would say every team that we’ve played has changed their tactics, changed their formations and changed their formation to play against us.

“I’ve said to the players, that’s their fault, not mine, their fault. They’re so good at what they do that other teams have to drastically change.

“I was convinced Rochdale would come and play against us. They’re a real good footballing team, but they didn’t.

“The biggest thing for me - because the players are being given so much respect, people are changing everything they do - the players have to be better.

“They have to become smarter, more intelligent and more game aware to manage situations.”
