WINNING is becoming a habit for Swindon College Old Boys as they shut out Littlemore in a 53-0 Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division win on Saturday.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, there is still room for improvement according to head coach Mark Lea, who was disappointed with his side’s sloppy play at times.

Changes to the team saw Liam Davis, Matt McKee, Toby Haynes and Ross Saville all rested for the weekend to allow injuries to heal, while Tom Barron, James Murray, Jason Patmore and Oliver Tapsell came in to the team.

Littlemore started with 14 players due to injuries but despite this, College made hard work of things.

Tries from Liam Spillane, Liam Farbace, Dan Cooper and Adam Reeves gave the visiting side a 26-0 lead at half-time, with the returning Charlie Grabe kicking three of the four conversions.

After the break, Grabe got his first try with chip and chase into the corner before Spillane got his second and debutant Tapsell went over the line.

Michael Calvert completed the scoring with three minutes to go but Lea was less than happy with his side’s performance.

“Confidence is high at the moment but the squad is aware that we have not played our best rugby on Saturday and will need to up our game,” said Lea.

“Winning is definitely a habit. Our job as coaches is to keep the boys working hard to improve their game and to keep the confidence to an appropriate level.

“There can be a danger that confidence becomes arrogance and that is not needed in a Swindon College team.

“We did not play well against a weak Littlemore side. Our defence is definitely a strength for us, yet we became disorganised at time at the weekend.

“Keeping a clean sheet of course is fantastic, yet better sides would have put points on us.”
