TOWN’S Aussie star Massimo Luongo is feeling more and more comfortable on the international stage.

The 22-year-old played 64 minutes of the Socceroos’ 2-1 defeat in Japan and, despite the scoreline, impressed with a busy and industrious display.

The midfielder is not fazed by much and seems to be taking playing for his country in his stride. Speaking after the game, Luongo was as laidback as ever when discussing the match and talking about the benefits of a longer preparation period.

Asked if he was feeling more at ease with his international colleagues, Luongo said: “It was normal for me. Obviously the opposition gets better, but I just try and do what the boss tells me and try to help the team as much as I can.

“If I get the free space after that I can try and do what I usually do and try a few things, but I’m getting more comfortable with the boys in the team and that really helps.

“The boss highlighted before the match that our preparation was really good. We’ve had nine days to prepare and the intensity was really high and focussed on how we are going to progress as a team.

“The nine or 10 days we had were really good and it looked as though we were prepared well and what the manager is trying to do was working.

There was a dedicated Luongo fan club on show in Osaka, with shirts bearing his name from Swindon and Tottenham, something the Town man was amused by.

“It’s different, all the way in Japan, and if there are Spurs fans taking it to that level it’s amazing,” he added.

“I saw a Swindon scarf that’s brilliant and if I could get to meet them that would be nice.”
