SWINDON Town are looking to gradually integrate new pro Lee Marshall into the first team set-up at the club.

The 17-year-old midfielder signed a two-year pro deal with Town at the end of October, having impressed in pre-season, and made his first team debut as a substitute against Luton Town in the Capital One Cup.

Marshall was the standout performer as Scott Lindsey’s under 18s lost out to Oxford United in the FA Youth Cup at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night.

Speaking after the game, Lindsey explained the plan of action for progressing his young charge into the senior set-up.

“Lee’s a good player. We try to get him into little areas where he’s sort of behind their midfield line and in front of their defensive line,” said the Town youth boss.

“He causes problems (for defences), he’s very comfortable in possession, he drives well with the ball and makes good decisions. He’s a good player, he’s got a bright future and he’s just got to keep working hard.

“I think the idea is for Lee to have one or possibly two days a week training with the first team before we start thinking about him being in the squad.

“That’s the idea now he’s signed his pro contract is to try and get more training hours with the first team, which is something we’re going to be looking at doing.

“Then we can see how he copes with that and then we might be able to do something with him in terms of the first team.”
