DEVIZES bounced back from their second defeat of the Davis Wood League Conference North season to beat Bristol UWE 5-0 on Saturday.

They were soon a goal to the good as Josh Bond played a superbly-weighted ball for Grant Humphries to tuck home.

The second soon followed when Humphries deflected home from close range and the game was over by half time as Ollie Smith finished on the reverse stick.

The second half saw Bristol UWE reduced to nine players for some aggressive tackles and Devizes added two more goals.

Roger Edwards converted a penalty flick and Jack Gompels scored with a brilliant strike on the half-volley.

Marlborough were held to a frustrating goalless draw at Mid Somerset in Central One.

Marlborough goalkeeper Brian Marnane made a couple of fine saves to preserve his side’s point.

  • MARLBOROUGH’s ladies ended a run of five West Clubs League Premier Division 2A matches without a win as they drew 1-1 with Cheltenham 2.

The home side were disciplined with their structure early on but were hit on the break to trail 1-0 at half time.

In the second half, with some fine attacking play up the right, Marlborough created an opportunity for Alex Crosby-Jones to flick home the equaliser.

Wootton Bassett claimed Wiltshire bragging rights as they maintained their unbetaen run in the East Division to defeat bottom side Devizes 4-1.

Devizes broke the deadlock midway through the first half, but Bassett levelled when Rebekah Taylor got a touch on a cross into the D.

Devizes won a penalty flick, but Bassett goalkeeper Meg Emms saved it and when Becky Thomas set Emma Collison up, she gave the visitors the half-time lead.

Bassett were the better side in the second half and got their third goal from a powerful straight strike by Tegan Buchanan off a short corner.

From a short corner, Thomas then scored her first goal of the season from with a drag flick.
