TROWBRIDGE ABC head coach Steve Bryant hopes that his club can enjoy more successful nights in their home town for years to come after returning to the Trowbridge Civic Centre on Saturday.

Trowbridge, who have spent the last few years holding their shows at the White Horse Country Park in Westbury, were back in the heart of the town last weekend as they hosted 15 bouts, with home fights shining in front of their nearest and dearest.

“We like to have two shows a year and our last one was at White Horse Country Park back in April but we haven’t been able to come back to the Civic Centre for a while because of the cost – now we’ve got a few more well-supported boxers,” said Bryant.

“It was great to be back. We had a great turnout and it’s nice to be in the town centre so that people can go out afterwards.

“We also raised a good amount of money for the club, which is really important to us.

“Our guys did really well. If the skills bouts had been scored, all of our boxers would have won those and we would have won nine out of 15 fights.

“We want the club to keep growing and we’ve got some talented 11, 12, 13 and 14-year-olds.

“We’ve had a few guys who have gone pro recently, like Ryan Wheeler, who’s just fought in Bristol, and Liam Hodson, who’s making his debut next month.”

Trowbridge middleweight star Nick Blackwell, who handed out prizes at Saturday’s show, is set to fight on the undercard of Juergan Braehmer’s WBA light-heavyweight title clash with Pawel Glazewski in Oldenburg, Germany, on December 6.

The bill, which takes place at the EWE Arena, is also set to feature British heavyweight David Price and will be broadcast in the UK on Channel 5.

Blackwell was last in action on November 8 as he out-pointed Welsh light- heavyweight Nathan King over eight rounds at Bluewater, Kent.
