GARETH Davies says that Fairford Town can’t waste time worrying about the opposition when they take on the unknown quantity of Wantage Town Reserves this weekend.

The Fairford manager plans to set his side out in search of three points when they make the trip to their fellow strugglers on Saturday but admits that he has no idea what kind of opposition the Cinder Lane men will be up against.

Fairford drew 3-3 with the Alfredians’ second string back in September but Davies reckons that Wantage could easily be a completely different entity this time around.

“Their first-team are in the Southern League but Acko (Gary Ackling) has left so I’ve got absolutely no idea what kind of side they’ll have,” said the Fairford chief.

“That’s the thing with reserve teams at this level. If you look back at Shortwood United, who we played last weekend, they’ll probably lose four or five lads out of the team that played us to the first-team on Saturday.

“So we’ve just got to worry about ourselves. It’s a game we’re targeting to try and get three points from.

“Jack Allen has done his ankle ligaments, so he’ll be out. I think he played a bit of six-a-side on Monday and aggravated them, which is a bit of a shame.

“But we’ll have Jesse Haines back, Luke Cordery back and Callum Marshall back too.”

Elsewhere in Division One West, sixth-placed Purton host eighth-placed Shortwood United while New College are without a fixture.

Shrivenham are in Premier Division action, taking on seventh-placed Bracknell Town at Barrington Park, whilst Wootton Bassett Town make the trip to Division One East Henley Town in the second round of the Challenge Cup.
