SAM Collier says that he only wants players who want to play for Shrivenham at the club.

The Barrington Park chief has seen striker Steve Robertson depart this week to Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Wootton Bassett Town.

And soon to be following him out the exit door is his strike partner Josh Fowler.

The hitman, who bagged 40 goals last term, turned down an approach from Highworth Town earlier in the campaign but Collier says that Fowler has since made contact with the Worthians about moving to the Elms.

“I had a phone call from John Fisher (Highworth manager) to say that Josh had made contact with them about joining Highworth,” Collier said.

“He asked if we would waive the seven days and once all the training gear is returned, we are happy to do so.

“With Robbo, he initially told me that he was going to stay and then he said that he wanted to go – it is disappointing.

“But I have got no problem with either of them wanting to leave – we won’t keep anyone hostage here.

“I only want players who want to play for the club here.”

With Fowler likely to follow Robertson out of the exit door, Collier is now searching to replace the 60 goals that they scored between them last season.

He said: “You do wonder how you are going to replace 60 goals, but that was last season.

“They have only scored nine between them this year. We can’t live in the past.”

With striking problems at the forefront of Collier’s mind, he is also targeting three points when they entertain fellow strugglers Brimscombe and Thrupp tomorrow.

“This is a game we have to target. They are around us in the table and we need to pick up points,” the Shrivvy chief said.

“We have got options who can play as a striker – I’m one, Sam Packer can play there too, as can John Rees.”

Highworth will be looking to start their climb back up the Premier Division table when they entertain Oxford City Nomads.

The Worthians, who progressed to the third round of the FA Vase last weekend, have seen themselves slip to ninth in the table having being as high as second.

But Fisher’s men have six games in hand on leaders Highmoor Ibis, who they trail by 18 points.
