BOSS Dave Webb believes Swindon Supermarine are starting to show just what they are capable of after bagging an impressive 2-0 win away at Yate Town.

The victory comes fresh off the back of Marine’s 5-2 thrashing of Sholing in midweek and helps them continue to climb towards the right end of the table following a slow start to the season.

Fifth-placed Yate started the day as one of the form sides in the league with a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions stretching back to mid-November.

But Marine did not let that faze them and turned in an exceptional performance to return to the Webb’s Wood Stadium full of festive cheer.

“It was a terrific win. They hadn’t lost in their last six games and were on their own patch full of confidence,” said Webb.

“We were very solid and very organised and showed a great work ethic. But you can’t win a game without any quality and we showed plenty of that as well.

“In games with a tricky pitch you just have to keep yourself in the game, and that’s what we did.

“That was a game that we may have lost six weeks ago. We showed what we are capable of.

“Winning games is what I am used to and it’s what we all want to do. It’s hard when you’re playing well and not getting the results you deserve but we’ve all stuck at it well.”

Victory at Lodge Road was built on patience, with Marine gradually stifling a strong-starting Yate before taking the lead four minutes before half-time through a cracking effort from Ryan Stanners.

Webb’s men continued to show their increasing maturity in the second half and made the points safe with 10 minutes to go as Jake Simpson curled a shot into the net from 20 yards.

“They started well and got at us, which is what we expected from them, but we dealt with them well and Sam Warrell made a couple of really good saves,” added Webb.

“Ross Adams was outstanding at the back. He organised the defence so well to make sure we kept ourselves in the game and played exactly as a skipper should.

“All the players did really well and we scored some quality goals as well. Ryan’s now scored in two games in a row, so it looks like he is adding that to his game alongside his general good performances.”
