NEW College boss Mark Teasdale is looking to end the year on a high after securing back to back wins at the weekend.

Having beaten Hook Norton 3-0 the week, Teasdale’s young side were able to keep another clean sheet as they secured a comfortable 5-0 win at home to Wantage Town Reserves.

Despite the one-sided score-line it had looked like it was going to be a tough afternoon for College as the squandered several one-on-one opportunities.

Jordan Wilkins opened the scoring in the first half and after some strong words in the dressing room at half-time the performance came together as Antonio Gerrish bagged a brace to add to strikes from Olly Hurt and Max Slinn.

“It was one of those games where we looked like we weren’t going to score and their keeper had a blinder,” said Teasdale.

“Jordan scored the first that rolled down his shin and off his boot and looped over the keeper, so we had a lucky start.

“Wantage were unlucky not to score just before half-time and then we sort of read the riot act to them at half time.

“Although the performance was there we weren’t clinical in front of goal and that sort of all came together in the second half.”

The win lifted College to ninth spot in the Hellenic Division One West table and Teasdale admitted he was pleased with how the first half of the season has gone for his side.

“It was just following on from last week’s performance so it was quite nice that we can look to string two wins together and hopefully that now sets us up for Purton and Fairford and it will be nice to end the year on a couple of wins.

“We set standards a bit high and we have been fortunate that we haven’t had any counties games so we have been able to pick from a full squad, which makes my life a bit easier,” added Teasdale, who is giving his side the week off over Christmas before they face Purton next weekend.

“I am just hoping things are now settling down.

“It is great for confidence and the two wins and two clean sheets has bolstered the confidence quite well and hopefully that then sets us up for next Saturday.

“I have been tasked with t top eight finish and to be there, or there abouts, at the start of the year would be really nice.

“It also shows that the boys have worked really hard. We have had some difficult games but if we can keep the consistency and the same side then things are looking positive for us.”

Next weekend’s opposition, Purton, also head into the local derby on the back of a win having beaten Letcombe 2-1 at home.

The hosts nearly scored in the first ten seconds of the game when Tom Swindall was found with the goal at his mercy, but keeper Danny Joyce was able to deny him with his face.

Purton did eventually take the lead after 33 minutes when Steve Davies headed a corner home at the back post.

The home-side increased their lead in the second half when Ben Carter was able to tap home a low cross from the left.

It was a nervous ending after Andy Goodchild lobbed Jonathan Cowley to pull a goal back before Ben Carter saw red.

Despite the visitors having the numerical advantage for the last 15 minutes they were unable to capitalise and Justin Miller’s men held on for the win.
