SHRIVENHAM now have a 13 game season, according to boss Sam Collier, and they kicked that off with a point against bottom of the league Cheltenham Saracens.

Having conceded 13 goals in their previous two games Collier was happy to see his side keep a clean sheet, despite an early scare.

However it is in front of goal where Shrivvy are still struggling and Collier will have a striker on his Christmas list if he hopes of turning the side’s fortunes around in the New Year.

The home side created plenty of chances but the wood-work denied them on three occasions as they failed to put more space between them and the side propping up the table.

“I am disappointed really,” said Collier after the game.

“I felt we controlled the game and we had the better of the chances apart from the first minute when they had a good chance.

“We hit the post three times and when your luck is going your way it ricochets to one of your lads but on all three occasions it fell to one of them and it was cleared.

“The keeper has made some fantastic saves for them as well.”

Collier does not have long to turn the season around and it does not get easier as he travels to Highworth Town next weekend.

“We said before the game we have a 13 game season now and we started off with a point,” he added.

“It is not what we realistically wanted, but after the last two performances where we have been battered, conceding six and seven, it was nice to get a clean sheet and the back four were very comfortable.

“That was the first thing; we needed to stop people scoring regardless of who we played.

“We need to score goals and we were a bit unlucky not to yesterday, but that is the way it goes when you are down the bottom.

“It wasn’t as if we didn’t create any chances, that would have been a concern, but we just didn’t get the rub of the green and it just wasn’t going to be.”
