DAVID Howell teed off this morning in the first round of the Dubai Desert Classic in his mission to make his first cut of 2015.

The Swindon golfer has so far failed to make the weekend at either the Abu Dhabi Championships or the Qatar Masters and will be hoping for an upturn of performance at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.

The Desert Classic, is of course, a tournament the Broome Manor Pro has enjoyed success at before, winning it at the event’s former home, the Dubai Creek Gold and Yacht Club.

Howell also record back-to-back top 10 finishes at the tournament in 2004 and 2005, both of those were at the Classic’s current course.

However since then the 39-year-old’s mastery of the course has slipped, with just two top 40 finishes in the nine tournaments since.

Howell tees off at 8.15am UK time and you can follow his progress thoughout the event with us on: swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport
