ROYAL Wootton Bassett will be keeping their eye on the ball this weekend as they travel to Wallingford this weekend.

Alan Low’s side are enjoying a real purple patch as they go on the search for an 11th Southern Counties North win on the bounce.

Despite the good run however Low is keeping his side’s feet firmly on the ground as they travel to Oxfordshire.

“The guys have strung a decent patch together and one of the things we hit them with is as soon as you lose a game you are as good as your last game,” said Low.

“You don’t want to be stepping into a game off the back of a hiding from someone because you took your eye off the ball.

“They are getting there and they are grinding out games.

“Some of the performances have been not as strong as we know they can be but the sign of a good side and a good squad is being able to come out of those games, where you know you haven’t put a good performance in, and you are still managing to get a result.”

It was a comfortable victory for Bassett in the reverse fixture at Ballard’s Ash back in November as they secured a 43-5 victory, but Low was left disappointed by their second-half performance and will be looking for a full 80 minutes from his side this Saturday.

“It was an awkward one here. We started really well at home and then I think the score was 40-odd and we only scored seven or 12 points in the second half,” added Low. “We really took our eye off the ball there.

“We have got to get that element of our game right and we know they have a pack that competes for certainly 40 minutes and they will try to disrupt what we are doing.

“Hopefully we’re in a better position now to deal with sides who try and disrupt what we are doing.”
