JON Guthrie says there will be no question of split loyalties when his Crewe Alexandra side host Swindon Town.

The 22-year-old Alex full-back grew up as a Town fan in Wiltshire and his family are still keen followers of the Robins.

Guthrie got his big break in football when he was snapped up by the Gresty Road outfit from Pewsey Vale in 2012 and it was ironically Town who he made his professional debut against.

And although he still has a soft spot for Swindon, there is no doubt where Guthrie’s allegiances will be come Saturday afternoon.

“I always look out for their results,” admitted Milton Lilbourne-born Guthrie.

“I was down there growing up and I always followed them, although I didn’t really get to see them that much. I’d go down to the County Ground whenever I could but it’s hard when you’re playing on a Saturday as well.

“All my family support them too but I think they will have to be in the Crewe camp for this weekend.

“I’ve played them a few times, including this season when we lost 2-0 down there, so we’re looking to do better than that this time.

“They are having a good season but hopefully that can stop on Saturday. I know they’ve had a bit of a blip recently but they’re a really good team, one of the best in the league.”

Guthrie may be forced to watch the match from the sidelines as he has only just returned to training after a month out with a knee problem.

Crewe have enjoyed some good results of late, helping pull them away from the drop zone, and Guthrie wants that to continue this weekend.

“I’ve been injured so I am not sure if I will be involved yet, I’ll find out on Friday,” he said.

“It’ll be a pity if I am not but it’s one of those things. I’m back in training but I’ve been out for a month and it’s just one of those things in football.

“We’ve picked up recently and all the boys have been doing well. We have to keep getting the wins because we want to get out of this.”
