Life is good here in San Francisco and the sun has been shining all week long – it has been unseasonably warm.

At times I’ve actually wondered whether I’m in southern California (SoCal, as the natives call it) rather than the typically cooler, wetter “NorCal”, which I now call home.

Training has been going well and I’ve had my head down, getting stuck into some big weeks.

This week has been one of my higher volume run-and-bike weeks.

On Wednesday, for example, I did a three-hour bike ride which included four hill repeats out on the Marin Headlands.

Once home, I ran off the bike (to mimic what we do in racing and train the body for this) for 30 minutes, hitting a four-mile loop through Golden Gate Park, which is only about half a mile from my front door.

After a good lunch, I then went back to bed and curled up under my duvet.

Later in the afternoon it was all systems go once again for a longer run – again through Golden Gate Park, but this time a slower paced, more endurance focused session which was just shy of 11 miles.

By the time I was home, I was more than ready for dinner!

With my first race of the season just around the corner now – Ironman 70.3 Monterrey in Mexico on March 15 – my focus is narrowing in on that.

It feels like a long time since I last raced (early October) so it will be good to get back out there and see what’s in the tank.

Racing is the celebration of all the hard work that has gone before it – it is the time to let it all out and give it your all.

I’m always proud to represent not just myself and my team, but all of my sponsors too.

Morris Owen Chartered Accountants and Virtua UK – both Swindon companies – have been supporting me since the early years of my racing career and continue to back me today.

I simply could not do what I do without their backing and I look forward to another season of representing them – and my entire team of sponsors – with great success.
