LOUIS Thompson has assured Swindon Town fans he has not played his last game for the club after suffering a shoulder injury in the goalless draw at Crewe on Saturday.

Thompson left the field on a stretcher with around 20 minutes to go at Gresty Road, with initial fears that the Norwich-bound midfielder may have dislocated his shoulder.

He was due to undergo an X-ray after the game and if those suspicions are proved correct, such an injury could put Thompson’s participation in the remainder of Town’s campaign into some doubt.

That would therefore make it highly likely that he has made his last Robins appearance before heading to Carrow Road in the summer.

However, Thompson took to social media yesterday to pledge to supporters that they would see him in Town colours again.

Thompson Tweeted: “Thank you to all the well wishers yesterday. I appreciate all the support, that wasn’t my last game for Swindon I can assure you.”

In the aftermath of the game, Town boss Mark Cooper was reluctant to give a diagnosis on the extent of Thompson’s injury until he had been through all the correct medical assessments.

No matter what those medical results reveal, Thompson is almost certain to miss Tuesday’s game at home to Gillingham.

Jack Stephens is also out after being sent off for a second bookable offence at Gresty Road and Cooper says that allows other players to stake a claim for a spot in the Town midfield.

Cooper said: “It gives the other boys who have not been in the team an opportunity.

“We’ve got some decent midfield players and three centre halves that are fit.

“It gives the boys who are on the bench, who possibly think they should be playing, a chance to play.”
