SWINDON Shock have claimed a place in the National League play-offs for the first time thanks to a dominant 98-59 victory at home to Woking Blackhawk Flyers.

The win means Shock are guaranteed to finish second in Division Four South West and will be one of the 16 teams to progress to the knockout rounds later this month.

Shock still have one game remaining in the regular season against Thames Valley Cavaliers this weekend and coach David Colclough is looking for another victory to make sure of a top-eight seeding and a home tie in the play-offs.

“I was ecstatic with that result. I couldn’t get to sleep that night after the game,” said Colclough, whose team will also be promoted to Division Three for next season.

“We lost our point guard before the game as he had to go back to the United States and we were a bit worried but all the guys put in a complete performance.

“We did unbelievably well and I think we were about 16 or 17 points up at half-time.

“Normally your opponent would come out after half-time and put in a really big fight but we started the third quarter with five or six straight points.

“Another win this weekend would put us in the top eight for certain with our record but I wouldn’t mind being a bit higher if we are able to.

“Coming from where we have come from it’s a great achievement to get into Division Three.

“We started at the bottom in little league and couldn’t win a game but we got better and got into the National League and it’s amazing to think where we will be next season.”
