SWINDON Supermarine may have scored four, five and six goals in their last three games but boss Dave Webb says he would take a 1-0 win in tonight’s match over a magnificent seven.

That is because Marine are up against Southern League Division One South & West leaders Merthyr Town, who make the trip to the Webb’s Wood Stadium looking to reignite their title challenge.

Merthyr have suffered back-to-back defeats over the past two weekends and have collected just one point from the last three games.

By contrast, Marine are currently enjoying a three-match winning run, which was capped by a 6-0 thrashing of bottom side Bashley on Saturday.

Although that has given Webb confidence that his side are capable of springing a shock against Merthyr this evening, the Marine boss is in no doubt who will be lifting the league trophy come the end of the season.

Webb said: “I’d take a 1-0 win, that would be great.

“The Bashley win has prepared us well for Tuesday night and Merthyr lost again on Saturday.

“They are having a bit of a blip at the moment, so hopefully we can get another good result. They are still the best team in the league and they have got all the things that you’d want in a side to be successful.

“Yes, they are having a bit of a bad run at the moment but for my money they’ll still go on and win the league.

“It’s a tough game but from our point of view, we just want to see how many games we can win in a row.”

Marine came through the weekend win over Bashley with a clean bill of health so have no new additions to their lengthy injury list.

However, Webb is unlikely to be able to name an unchanged XI as Scott Bevan, who is dual registered from Conference side Forest Green Rovers, is back at his parent club this week.

“I think we lose Scott for the game as he has commitments to Forest Green on Wednesday,” added Webb.

“That’s another defender we’re missing but there were no injury concerns from Saturday, so that’s encouraging.”

Meanwhile, it is a case of fourth versus third in Hellenic League Division One West as Purton travel to Tuffley Rovers.
