CORSHAM Hockey Club will be rolling out the red carpet for the local community later this month as they host their first-ever title party.

Corsham, who play at Springfield Community Campus, were only formed last summer, but their men’s first team got life in the Davis Wood Hockey League off to the perfect start by clinching the East Central Two division title.

A 2-0 win over Marlborough B on February 22 secured promotion to East Central One while their 5-1 win over Bristol University D last Sunday, thanks to a Tom Bowery hat-trick and goals from Ben Knowlden and Ian Gould, sealed the title.

Captain and vice-chairman Simon Jackson is hoping that Corsham’s instant success can be the driving force behind his club’s growth.

“We want to get a big crowd in for the last home game of the season on March 14 [a 3.30pm start against Wootton Bassett B] – that’s going to be our title party,” said Jackson, whose side have won all but one of their league games so far this season.

“Our aim was to try and win the league in our first season and we’ve managed to do that. We’ve only lost one game and that was when we came up against a Devizes side that were at their best that day. We’ve had some good support from the local area already and hopefully winning the league can help us attract more talent to the club.

“Our coach, Dave Ward, has been fantastic, but I’d say that the core of our team is made up of older guys and we want to try and pass things over to the young guns – we also need a few more on the committee.

“If we can, we’d like to get enough players in so that we can run a second team in the division we’ve just come up from but we’ll have to see if that’s possible.

“It’s been a really nice first season for the club and we’re looking forward to that last home game.”

Corsham Ladies are fourth in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Wessex Division One with the seconds fifth in Wessex Division Two.
