Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson is calling for runners taking part in the 2007 Flora London Marathon to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
The Prostate Cancer Charity is hoping to recruit a team of over 200 London Marathon runners to raise over £260,000 for its work.
Jackson said: "If you were successful in the London Marathon ballot, please use your own place to raise much-needed funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
"Every year 10,000 men in the UK die of prostate cancer. That means one man dies every hour from the disease - now the most common form of cancer diagnosed in men."
He added: "The Prostate Cancer Charity works tirelessly to provide information and support for men with prostate cancer and also fund research into the disease. By raising funds for this charity you will be helping to improve the lives of thousands of men, and their families, who are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year."
Elaine Bennett, director of fundraising at The Prostate Cancer Charity, welcomed Jackson's support.
She said: "Taking part in the Flora London Marathon is an excellent way to support the work of The Prostate Cancer Charity. We have over 160 people running on our behalf, most of whom are taking part because they, or someone close to them, have been affected by this disease.
"We are extremely grateful for Colin's support and to all of our runners who have shown an incredible commitment to the charity by dedicating a fantastic amount of time and effort into training for this event.
"It is only with this kind of support that we can continue to help improve the lives of the 32,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK every year through our research, information and support services."
The London Marathon will be held on the 22nd April 2007.
