SWINDON TOWN: London boys get plaudits

9:32am Tuesday 27th February 2007

TOWN'S capital crew' features no less than five members at present with the most recent member of the club delighted the London boys are making an impression.

However, Michael Timlin insists accents and regional loyalties play second fiddle to the greater cause.

The young midfielder has already spoken positively about Andy Nicholas' contribution at the back but Nicho' is the one Scouser in an otherwise exclusively London defensive club.

Goalkeeper Phil Smith, Jack Smith, Jerel Ifil and Jamie Vincent all hail from or have strong connections with the capital.

Fulham man Timlin adds to the mix but he refuses to accept that it's simply the London boys who are driving Town's promotion push.

He said: "Yeah, I suppose there's a few of us from there but when you're out on that pitch the only connection that matters is the one that says you're all playing for Swindon."

And London boys (plus a Scouser) or not, Timlin feels Town's back five deserve plenty of plaudits at present.

He feels there is a good mix of qualities within the unit.

He said: "I think there are defenders here who are capable of playing at a higher level."

  • A reminder that the County Ground will host the womens international between England and Holland on March 14. Tickets are £5 and £2.50 respectively. Further details via the Town box office or thefa.com.
