IT WAS a game of two halves at Bremhill View as Warminster Town let a two-goal lead slip to take a share of the points with Calne Town on Wednesday.

Warminster, who were forced to play forward Lewis Graham in a back three, started with intent and were in front after Louis Sparey was pushed in the box by Marcus Lovesey, and the forward picked himself up to convert the penalty.

The visitors' lead was doubled when Tom Golledge let fly from the edge of the box before the break.

Calne pulled a goal back six minutes after the restart when Mark Dolman got on the end of a free-kick and they were on level terms when Adam Shipman played it into Aaron Hopkins to slot home in the 67th minute.

“We were down to bare bones last night and only had two defenders, so we went three at the back and went for it,” said Graham.

“The first half, I have never seen our team play as well. We played absolutely fantastic. They couldn’t get near us and we played some lovely one-touch football.

“In the second half, we had injuries and at half-time, they were knackered and so it was a different game in the second half and they got back in the game.

“The first half though was enough for me to enjoy it - there was some brilliant stuff and on the whole, I quite enjoyed the game.”

The draw saw Town bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to Barnstaple on Saturday but Graham said they pushed the leaders.

“In the game we had against Barnstaple, we were awful in the first half and the wind was bad but in the second half, we had them on the ropes and they were hanging on,” he added.

“Their keeper has made a couple of great saves and we couldn’t get the second goal. So in the last seven games, that is only one defeat against the top of the league, so I can’t complain about that.”
