SWINDON Supermarine chief Dave Webb wants to bring the curtain down on a difficult season with three points on Saturday.

Injuries have blighted Marine’s campaign and the traditional play-off candidates find themselves down in 14th place ahead of their final game of the season.

Webb admits 2014-15 has not gone how he had imagined but that has not dampened his appetite to go out with a bang when Cinderford Town visit the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

“Normally at this stage of the season we want to be looking forward to playing a play-off game next week and unfortunately we aren’t, but we want to finish with a win,” said Webb.

“It’s not where we are used to being, it’s not where I want to be and it’s not where the players want to be, but this is where we are.

“We’ve just had too many injuries, especially at the back and that’s where it starts. You want a solid back four in front of your keeper and you build from there.

“The players we signed haven’t played enough, that’s the biggest factor in why we are here. That’s got to be our priority when we sign players over the summer.

“I try to look for the positives and there have been some. We’ve brought some young players through and guys have had really good seasons, like Luke Hopper, Chris Taylor and Ross Adams.”

Josh Morse fired Marine to a 1-0 win over Didcot Town last weekend and Webb says his troops will have to match that performance if they are to slay Cinderford.

Webb said: “Our play-off hopes were over two months ago but the lads have not just seen the season out, they’ve gone in trying to win every game. Hopefully we can put in another good performance.

“Cinderford are a good side and we will have to be as good as we were last week against Didcot if we are to get a result.”

Skipper Ross Adams is a doubt having limped off injured against Didcot, while Bradley Gray and Ryan O’Hara are both unavailable for Marine.

“Ross is 50-50. It’s a big one for us if he doesn’t make it,” added Webb.

“Thankfully Scott Bevan is fit, so that’s another defensive player available and Joe Shepherd has been training again. He hasn’t played in a while but he is desperate to play.”
